Waveform characterization and modeling of speech/image sources; quantization of signals; uniform, nonuniform and adaptive quantizing; pulse code modulation (PCM) systems; differential PCM (DPCM); linear prediction theory, adaptive prediction; delta modulation and sigmadelta modulation systems; subband coding with emphasis on speech coding; data compression methods like Huffman coding, Ziv-Lempel coding and run length coding.
