Distingushed Associate Professor Michael Poli, Ph.D.
Dr. Michael Poli is in his tenth year at the Stevens Howe School of Technology Management. Besides teaching project management, Michael as Associate Director of the Stevens Project Management program has been instrumental in growing the program. He earned his Ph.D. in Project Management from Stevens in May 2006. His dissertation topic "Project Strategy: The Path to Achieving Competitive Advantage/Value" is based on real life case studies from MGT 614. Michael created and developed MGT 610 Project Management Theory and Practice and MGT 614 Advanced Project Management. Additionally, he revised and developed a new curriculum for MGT 609 Introduction to Project Management. Michael has personally taught each of these courses many times. He contributed to the development of the online versions of MGT 609 and MGT 614. Dr. Poli has also taught MGT 609 in Paris and MGT 614 in Beijing. He continues to do research in project management and is a frequent presenter at PICMET, the Portland International Center for Management of Engineering and Technology conference. Dr. Poli has 33 years of industry experience prior to joining Stevens. He was with AT&T for 15 years. In his first four years, he was a Technical Supervisor of software development. Michael then taught the premier, intensive, week long Project Management Workshop the next eight years. The workshop assisted in jumping starting many AT&T projects. During this time, he also championed and developed the AT&T Bell Labs Best Current Practice in Project Management. In his last three years at AT&T, Michael worked as a project management consultant to internal projects. In his 18 years experience prior to AT&T, Dr. Poli held positions in software development, product management, operations management, and project management in companies such as IBM, EDS, Olivetti and Exxon Systems.
