Since 2003 Nick Strakhov has taught three different topics as graduate courses in Software Engineering at Stevens. He has also taught previously at Monmouth University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Drew University. Nick retired from Telcordia Technologies (formerly Bellcore, formerly Bell Labs) in October, 2002 after 43 years. During his time there he worked in the following areas:

  • Development of new Software System for Assigning Central Office Inventory to Customer Circuits– this is a large system (~5M lines of code). The majority of the code runs on an IBM main frame and a small part runs on a desktop computer. An ancillary system is based on a client/server architecture.
  • Supervised a team of software engineers developing a predecessor software system. One of the activities was to develop and utilize a Fortran to C translation program.
  • Improved understanding of manufacturing variations on crosstalk performance of multi-pair cable. Developed theory and confirmed with data.
  • Contributed to design of fiber optic cable
  • Directed the Development of a Computer-controlled Cable Crosstalk Measurement System.
  • Developed Transistorized Test Sets for Telephone Company Maintenance Personnel 

Nick has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from MIT and a Masters and PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from New York University.
