Phillip D. Long, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Phillip Long is a Senior Strategist for the Academic Computing Enterprise, and the Director of Learning Outreach for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology iCampus project. He provides direction in applying MIT Information System resources to support the development and integration of educational technology into the academic environment. He also leads the MIT iCampus Outreach initiative to freely disseminate the educational technology innovations for laboratories, classrooms, and campus communities worldwide. He has contributed to the Open Knowledge Initiative, a project to develop an open source software development architecture for online instruction. He serves or has participated in various advisory boards and professional committees including the Seminars in Academic Computing program committee, US Army Distance Education Advisory Subcommittee, Syllabus Board of Directors, NLII Advisory Council for Teaching and Learning. He has shared his knowledge and expertise at numerous conferences and through many invited presentations around the world. His current research interests focus on the impact and dissemination of open source software, and, the interaction between learning sciences, design, and spaces (physical and virtual) that support encourage creativity and deep learning, particularly for the sciences and engineering.
